Monday, November 12th, 2012. New York City – The Brooklyn Free Store is teaming up with LaunchPad to host a very special BLACK FRIDAY FREE STORE on Friday, November 23, 2012 from 12pm to 6pm.
On Facebook they say, “On the largest shopping day of the year, we would like to present people with an alternative to participating in the waste of disposable culture by offering housewares, toys, clothing, winter coats, shoes, books, and whatever else donations bring completely free.
The idea of the Free Store is simple: take whatever you can use, bring whatever you can give that someone else could use, without the expectation…
of exchange. It is a model for another way of living without money and without scarcity.
Let us know if you can help out particularly with setting up and cleaning up, but also with publicity, and greeting people during the event.
The Brooklyn Free Store has been a weekly outdoor event since mid-august. If you have a space to offer us during the winter months or even more permanently so we can continue this community-building gift economy project, please let us know.”

The Brooklyn Free Store is a free space where many things are possible. There are only a handful of basic principals that allow the space to function.
* Nothing is for sale.
* There are no patrons and no customers only participants.
* All are welcome to participate by contributing or receiving goods, services, art, performance, etc.
* Take care of the space and those in it.
