People for Free Press – Rally and March (PHOTOS/VIDEOS).

Square

Thursday, April 6th, 2017. New York City – On Saturday, March 25th, a group of people gathered at Bryant Park and marched to the New York Times building to support freedom of the press.

Short video of the rally and march.

Organizers of the rally and march said, “(we) support our media against a constant barrage of outright lies, propaganda, and slander against any writer, newspaper, reporter, television station, internet site, radio, etc. that does not agree with or show the POTUS (President of the United States of America) or situation in his view.” They have another event on May 13, 2017.

These are some of the photographs that I took of the event.

The New York City Department (NYPD) and the media.

During the Occupy Wall Street Movement, the NYPD harassed and arrested members of the media.

On October 1, 2011, I was covering the march from Zuccotti Park to Brooklyn. The NYPD allowed people to use the roadway to cross the Brooklyn Bridge and about halfway through the bridge, NYPD officers arrested me and more than 700 hundred people. It was a trap. Watch the video bellow.

On January 1, 2012, I was covering a OWS march. I was walking on the sidewalk, NYPD officers arrested me and other people. Again, it was a trap.

Watch the video bellow by Tim Pool. The relevant section begins around minute 31:50 and ends with the arrests around minute 35:00. The video shows that I was on the sidewalk. The only people blocking traffic and people on 13th Street and 5th ave that night were the police officers themselves. Police officers wrote false reports about why they arrested me. After several days in court, I was found not guilty.

Many people working for the media were arrested in the United States of America during the OWS Movement.

“James Rosen: Fox News reporter targeted as ‘co- conspirator’ in spying case.”

Tom McCarthy writes on The Guardian, “The Obama administration has investigated a reporter with Fox News as a probable “co-conspirator” in a criminal spying case after a report based on a State Department leak.”

“We are outraged to learn today that James Rosen was named a criminal co-conspirator for simply doing his job as a reporter,” Fox News executive vice-president of news editorial Michael Clemente said in the statement. “In fact, it is downright chilling. We will unequivocally defend his right to operate as a member of what up until now has always been a free press.”

“If Donald Trump targets journalists, Thank Obama.”

James Risen writes on the New York Times, “If Donald J. Trump decides as president to throw a whistle-blower in jail for trying to talk to a reporter, or gets the F.B.I. to spy on a journalist, he will have one man to thank for bequeathing him such expansive power: Barack Obama.

I experienced this pressure firsthand when the administration tried to compel me to testify to reveal my confidential sources in a criminal leak investigation. The Justice Department finally relented — even though it had already won a seven-year court battle that went all the way to the Supreme Court to force me to testify — most likely because they feared the negative publicity that would come from sending a New York Times reporter to jail.”

Donald Trump and the press.

On February 17, 2017, Trump said “The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!”

Trump’s relationship with the mainstream media has been fraught for some time. He prefers the conservative media than the liberal media. The liberal media have repeatedly talk about his false statements and they also talk about other stories that Trump doesn’t like. During the primaries and general election in 2016, the press gave Donald MILLIONS of dollars in FREE airtime. Donald will not attend the annual White House Correspondents dinner.

5 HUGE corporations control the mainstream media.

Those 5 corporations choose what they want the public to know. Corporate media care about how much money they make. They care about their ratings, sponsors, etc.

“What we should be most concerned about, Ben Bagdikian says, is the narrowing of choices, because that removes from voters the full spectrum of views and information with which to choose its government—a dangerous trend that threatens democracy itself.”

“When Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders first launched his campaign, the mainstream media called him a fringe candidate and largely ignored his campaign,” says Democracy Now. Watch the video bellow with Amy Goodman and Bernie Sanders.

Watch the video bellow for more about corporate media, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump.

“Fox News hires disgraced (former New York Times) reporter Judith Miller.”

Amanda Terkel writes on Think Progress, “Miller has been a willing participant in the Bush administration’s quest to peddle lies to the American public. She was a key player in pushing false intelligence that led the public into the Iraq war, and was central to the Valerie Plame leak scandal.

On Sept. 7, 2002, she and fellow New York Times reporter Michael Gordon reported that Iraq had “stepped up its quest for nuclear weapons and has embarked on a worldwide hunt for materials to make an atomic bomb.” As proof, she cited unnamed “American intelligence experts” and unnamed “Bush administration officials.” Subsequently, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, and Donald Rumsfeld all pointed to Miller’s story as justification for war.”

“Why has trust in media collapsed? Look at actions of WSJ, Yahoo, Business Insider and Slate.”

Glenn Greenwald writes on the Intercept, “Last week, we published documents that definitively debunked and disproved a claim that numerous media outlets had circulated and affirmed for years: that Edward Snowden lied about where he was during his first 11 days in Hong Kong. Contrary to the fable these outlets dispensed to their readers — that Snowden did not check in to the Mira Hotel on May 21 as he claimed but only did so on June 1, 11 days later — these new documents, obtained from the Mira, prove that Snowden arrived there exactly when he always said, rendering their published stories factually false. Many of these stories had even claimed that anonymous U.S. investigators were unable to find hotel or credit card records for Snowden during these 11 days — exactly the records we just published.”
