The Last Day of Marriage Inequality. Making our contribution to history.

Today, we made our contribution to history. Will the republican Senators make they contribution tomorrow, Monday, June 20th?

Senator Dean Skelos, introduce the bill and vote YES for EQUALITY.

I have a list of senators here. Call/email/facebook them.

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal”_ Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The New York State Senate technically has one more day to introduce the Marriage Equality Act to the floor and hold a vote. Same-sex couples deserve the equal rights and protections that opposite-sex couples are afforded under New York State law. New York is on the verge of achieving marriage equality and all efforts in this fight are needed now more than ever!

In anticipation of this historic day, QUEER RISING organized “THE LAST DAY OF MARRIAGE INEQUALITY” a Rally & March in Union Square, New York City on Sunday June 19, 2011. After the speeches, they marched to the historic Stonewall Inn (53 Christopher Street) to TOAST the upcoming equality!

Speakers and representatives from the LGBT Community and its allies encouraged immediate positive action as the clock ticks. Speakers: Cathy Marino-Thomas (Board President of Marriage Equality New York); Yetta Kurland (civil rights attorney); Natasha Dillon (Founding Member, Queer Rising); Rev. Jacqui Lewis (Middle Collegiate Church); Sabrina Haley (nightlife producer, activist); and TJ WIlliams (Trinity United Church of Christ).

Throughout, the LGBT community DEMANDED that Republican Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos introduce the bill to the floor. They DEMANDED all undecided Republican Senators to stand on the right side of history and join the 29 Democratic and the two Republican Senators, McDonald & Alesi in approving the bill.

“I’ve been with my partner for 10 years. We registered as domestic partners two years ago. Now we want the rights.” said Jen Cinclair, 31, who joined the rally in Union Square dressed in white and wearing a bridal veil.
