Wednesday, March 20th, 2013. New York City – On Sunday, March 17, activists announced that Kimani “Kiki” Gray’s wake will be on Friday, March 22, the funeral will be on Saturday, March 23 and the mass march on Sunday, March 24.

Kimani “Kiki” Gray’s wake is on 3/22/2013, the funeral is on 3/23/2014 and a mass march is on 3/24/2013.

16 years old boy, Kimani “Kiki” Gray (1996 – 2013) was killed by NYPD Sgt. Mourad Mourad and Officer Jovaniel Cordova on Saturday, March 9th, 2013 around 11:30pm on East 52 Street in the neighborhood of East Flatbush. Brooklyn, NYC.

Officers said, Kimani was pointing a gun to them, however two witnesses, Tishana King told NY Daily News and Camille Johnson told ABC7 Eyewitness News that Kimani didn’t have a gun in his hands when the two NYPD undercover officers killed him last weekend.

One of the witnesses, Tishana King told the New York Daily News last week that she was “certain [Gray] didn’t have anything in his hands” when he was shot, casting doubt on police claims that Gray pointed a revolver at the officers, forcing them to open fire. She also said Gray was “backing up” when “The cop took out his gun and started firing.”

Journalist Ryan Devereaux interviewed her again. She told Ryan: “He (the officer) just kept shooting while [Gray] was on the ground.”

“I just remember screaming out the window ‘Why?! Why so much?!” King recalled. She claims the “main shooter”‘s partner–”with the short haircut”–responded.

“He started waving his gun up at our windows, myself and my neighbor. ‘Get your F-ing head out the window before I shoot you.’”

(A wake (Irish: faire) is a ceremony associated with death. Traditionally, a wake takes place in the house of the deceased, with the body present; however, modern wakes are often performed at a funeral home. In the United States and Canada it is synonymous with a viewing. It is often a social rite which highlights the idea that the loss is one of a social group and affects that group as a whole.)
