On Facebook the organizers say, “Millions are outraged at the acquittal of the murderer George Zimmerman, who stalked and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. Within an hour of “not guilty” verdict, people of all backgrounds were rising up in the streets across the United States, including here in NYC.”
They also say, “New York City has its own Trayvon Martins: Kimani Gray, Ramarley Graham, Reynaldo Cuevas, Noel Polanco, Shantel Davis, John Collado, Sean Bell. And just like George Zimmerman, the NYPD officers who killed these unarmed Black youth are still walking free today.
The “justice” system is a sham, always protecting the cops and the racists, while every day targeting Black and Latino young people. The courts won’t give us justice, but the people have the power once we come together, organize and fight back.”
Tomorrow, in at least 100 cities across the country, people will again take action to demand justice for Trayvon Martin, and call for action to end the institutionalized racism exposed by the recent verdict.
In NYC, there will be a rally at 1 Police Plaza, at 12PM (4,5,6,J,M,Z to Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall).
The rally and march today were organized by The ANSWER Coalition (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism), The Rebel Diaz Arts Collective, Stop Stop and Frisk Freedom Fighters and Party for Socialism and Liberation.
