Ciudad de Nueva York – Un grupo de personas se reunieron en 1 dag hammarskjold plaza frente a las Naciones Unidas para una manifestación y marcha en apoyo a las personas inmigrantes y la comunidad latina/hispana en los Estados Unidos y en todo el mundo. Después de la manifestación frente a las Naciones Unidas, las personas marcharon a la Trump Tower ubicada en la Quinta Avenida y Calle 56.
Ana Breton e Isabel López, dos de las personas organizadoras dicen en su sitio web www.LaMarchaDeMayo.com, “Los muros nos dividen; y Estados Unidos ya tiene varios: muros sociales, muros económicos, desigualdad salarial y barreras laborales. Estados Unidos no necesita otra barrera. Específicamente, Estados Unidos no necesita otro muro en la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México.
Un muro fronterizo es una bofetada en la cara a los mexicanos en México y los inmigrantes mexicanos que viven y prosperan en los Estados Unidos. Un muro fronterizo no sólo le cuesta dinero a las personas que pagan sus impuestos en Estados Unidos, sino también crea una representación visual que realmente perjudicaría las relaciones entre ambos países. Un muro fronterizo afectaría físicamente el paisaje que cubriría, incluyendo montañas y ríos en la zona, los animales que migran a través de esa área y los residentes con propiedad privada a lo largo de la frontera.
Creemos que Estados Unidos necesita construir puentes, no muros. Necesitamos construir puentes, social y económicamente; entre los inmigrantes y los ciudadanos. Entre vecinos y amigos. Tenemos que unirnos y consolidar la creencia de que la cultura sólo hace que nuestro país más fuerte y mejor.
Hacemos un llamado a nuestros amigos y vecinos, ya hayan estado aquí por siglos o por días, para reunirse y apoyar nuestra creencia de que deberíamos construir más puentes, y no paredes.”

Saturday, May 6, 2017. New York City – A group of people gathered at 1 dag hammarskjold Plaza in front of the United Nations for a demonstration and march in support of immigrants and the Latinx/Hispanic community in the United States and around the world. After the rally in front of the United Nations, people marched to the Trump Tower located on Fifth Avenue and 56th Street.
Ana Breton and Isabel López, two of the organizers said on their website www.LaMarchaDeMayo.com, “Walls divide us; and America already has plenty of them: social walls, economic walls, pay gaps and glass ceilings. America doesn’t need another barrier. Specifically, America doesn’t need a border wall between the Mexico-U.S. border.
A border wall is a slap in the face to the Latinx and immigrant community abroad, and in the United States. A border wall would not only cost money to American taxpayers, but create a visual representation that would actually harm the relationship between both countries. A border wall would physically affect the landscape it would cover, including mountains and rivers in the area, the animals that migrate through the land, and the residents with private property along the border line.
We believe that America needs to build bridges, not walls. We need to build bridges socially and economically; between immigrants and citizens. Between neighbors and friends. We need to come together and solidify the belief that culture only makes our country stronger, and better.
We call upon the our friends and neighbors, whether they have been here for centuries or for days, to come together and support our belief that we should build more bridges, not walls.”

Una reforma migratoria justa beneficia a todas las personas en los Estados Unidos de América.
“El senador independiente de Vermont y exprecandidato presidencial, Bernie Sanders, instó este martes al presidente Donald Trump a que “no se meta” con los pobres y con los inmigrantes indocumentados, durante una protesta en la que activistas anunciaron una movilización nacional para el próximo 1 de mayo.
Asimismo, Sanders reiteró las exigencias de su campaña presidencial para que el Congreso apruebe una reforma migratoria integral con una vía hacia la ciudadanía, un aumento del salario mínimo a $15 la hora, equidad salarial para las mujeres, y matrícula gratuita en los colegios universitarios públicos.” Lee más aquí.
