“HUNDREDS RALLY IN SUNSET PARK TO DEMAND AN END TO RAIDS IN IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES.

PLAZA PROLETARIA CALLS ON OTHERS TO ORGANIZE ACTIONS IN THE NEIGHBORHOODS MOST AFFECTED.

These are the demands:

  1. A complete cessation of ICE raids.
  2. The protection of immigrant’s rights to due process.
  3. The closure of Guantanamo Bay and its cession to Cuba.
  4. The resignation of Eric Adams (zionist New York City mayor).
  5. Expansion of sanctuary laws.
  6. A pathway to citizenship for all immigrants.
  7. The closure of all immigrant detention centers.
  8. Funding to afford immigrants free legal counsel for their immigration cases.
  9. Comprehensive street vendor reform to protect the immigrants that make up most of this work force from further interactions with law enforcement.

Plaza calls on all immigrant advocacy groups, elected officials, and organizations to raise these demands.

At the end of the rally, Plaza made a call for High School students to organize walk outs and to confront Eric Adams for his complicity in the Trump Administration’s terror campaigns against immigrant communities.

High School students interested can DM or email plazaproletaria@gmail.com,” said Plaza Proletaria on Facebook on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

“On February 8th, 2025, people of New York City and the surrounding areas will rally to demonstrate their support for immigrant populations and communities in NYC and around the country. In light of the recent attacks on immigrant rights such as the attempt to deny birthright citizenship, the erosion of their right to due process (Laken Riley Act), the deportation of migrants to Guantanamo Bay, and the use of raids in immigrant communities to spread terror, we call on all progressive people and people of conscious to build a united front to defend immigrants and defeat the Trump administration’s fascist agenda.

We demand a complete cessation of ICE raids, the protection of immigrant’s rights to due process, the closure of Guantanamo Bay and its cession to Cuba, and the resignation of Eric Adams. We also demand the expansion of sanctuary laws, a pathway to citizenship for all immigrants, the closure of all immigrant detention centers, funding to afford immigrants free legal counsel for their immigration cases, and comprehensive street vendor reform to protect the immigrants that make up most of this work force from further interactions with law enforcement.

We call on all working-class people and organizations to work towards the creation of a genuine and popular working-class party that will elevate and centralize all working-class demands and help lead immigrants in their struggles. We will respond to the question of “republican or democrat?” with “neither”, and we will respond to the attacks on the working-class with a new socialist party capable of uniting all sections of the working class and their allies!” said Plaza Proletaria on Instagram on Saturday, February 8, 2025.

“If we are serious about making change we must be concerned with organizing the power needed to carry it out. This power is best organized from inside the communities that stand to win the most from flipping the current system on its head,” said Plaza Proletaria on Facebook on Thursday, February 6, 2025.

“Plaza Proletaria, Working-class Community-Based Organization.

In much of Latin America and other parts of the world plazas can be found in every town and they play a central role in the social life of the community by facilitating gatherings and discussions of the people. This is a role we hope Plaza can play in working class communities where public space is limited and usage of them for large gatherings is often restrained by state bureaucracy and the policing.

Plaza is an organization based in Sunset Park that brings together working-class persons, families, households, and their allies, with the aim of organizing around the emergent demands of the working-class and inspiring alternative methods of civic engagement. Plaza has forged communal connections in Sunset Park and has managed to politicize questions of land use, housing, policing, poverty, education, and more.

We embrace the all-sided nature of our struggle,” says Plaza Proletaria on Instagram.
