“The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) confirms that one of the main boats, known as the “Family Boat” – that was carrying GSF Steering Committee members, was struck by a drone. The boat was under the Portuguese flag and all passengers and crew are safe. An investigation is currently underway and when more information is available it will be released immediately. 

Acts of aggression aimed at intimidating and derailing our mission will not deter us. Our peaceful mission to break the siege on Gaza and stand in solidarity with its people continues with determination and resolve,” says on Instagram the Global Sumud Flotilla.

PRESS CONFERENCE ON DRONE ATTACK.

“The Global Sumud Flotilla will hold a press conference today to update media and the public on the drone attack sustained by one of its boats, the Family Boat.

While all participants are safe, details about the attack remain limited,” says the Global Sumud Flotilla on Instagram.

Activist says he saw drone dropping a bomb on Family Boat

Miguel Duarte, an activist on board the Family Boat, told the Middle East Eye (MEE) that he saw the drone hovering above the ship and dropping the explosive on the Family Boat.

Israeli jet fighters hit the vessel with rockets, cannon fire and napalm, before three Israeli torpedo boats moved in to launch a second more devastating attack. Later Israel apologised for what it claimed to be a tragic case of mistaken identity. It said that it had believed the ship to be hostile Egyptian naval vessel. US President Lyndon Johnson (a member of the Democratic Party) was privately furious but publicly the White House chose not to challenge the word of its closest Middle East ally and accepted that the attack had been a catastrophic accident.
