Thursday, April 30, 2026. Lenapehoking (New York City) – On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, “Students for Justice in Palestine at the College of Staten Island” and the “Student-worker coalition at the College of Staten Island” held a rally and march to demand that the College of Staten Island president Timothy Lynch reinstate the valedictorian live address for commencement.

“Today students, faculty, and staff marched and rallied together with @f2w.csi to demand that President Timothy Lynch reinstate the valedictorian live address for commencement.
The decision to require a pre-recorded address as an attack to our free speech and we must show the administration we will not accept and stand by while our freedom of expression is stripped away.
We will continue to show up and fight. An attack to one is an attack to all,” said Students for Justice in Palestine at the College of Staten Island on April 28, 2026.
“Students and faculty are coming together to demand that President Lynch lets the valedictorian speak!
Last year a Palestinian-American woman won Valedictorian, and CSI, required her to hand over a pre-recorded speech instead of allowing a live address. That decision is continuing — so we’re pushing back.
Show up. Bring a friend. We demand: Let the students speak,” said Students for Justice in Palestine at the College of Staten Island before the rally.
