On May 7, 2026, Workers World Party said on Instagram, “The New York City Central Labor Council-AFL-CIO held a rally at Washington Square Park and a march down Broadway to Foley Square to commemorate International Workers Day. Dozens of unions and organizations participated in the action, with many carrying signs in support of migrants and opposing ICE and war.”

Workers World Party added, “Several organizations participated in a stationary unified, anti-imperialist contingent to greet the May Day march with drums, chants, flags and signs opposing all U.S. wars and defending resistance to U.S. imperialism. A nine-foot banner declared: “On May Day Defend Workers of the World – Fight ICE, Fight U.S. Imperialism.” A large foam core board read: “U.S. Workers Fight ICE & Help Defend: Cuba, Palestine, Iran, Venezuela & Lebanon!” Some of the groups that participated included ArmTheDollz, BronxAnti-War Coalition, Demilitarize Brooklyn Navy Yard, Mass Mutual Aid & Scientific Socialism, Palaver Collective, Pratt SJP, StopYourLiesNYT, Workers World Party, and People’s Organization for Progress. In an address to the anti-imperialist contingent, Workers World Party First Secretary Larry Holmes stated: “May Day is about workers in New York, workers in every part of this country. But it’s also about the workers in Iran, the workers in Palestine and Lebanon, in Gaza and Venezuela and Cuba and every place that U.S. imperialism is targeting with bombs and war and starvation in a desperate effort to hold on to their empire, which is crumbling. So Long Live Palestine! Long Live solidarity! Long Live revolution. Workers of the world unite!” #smashimperialism #victorytotheresistance #longlivepalestine.”

A May Day 2021 manifesto for the revolutionary transformation of the working class

“To all fighters for the workers and the oppressed of the world, especially those who dwell in the belly of the world’s biggest imperialist beast, the United States: We can no longer ignore, evade or otherwise deny the fundamental problems blocking the path of the workers to class struggle and socialist revolution. The need for political direction, combined with the need for classwide organization, and the need for the development of new revolutionary leadership altogether, constitute an urgent crisis for all who consider themselves serious revolutionaries.

Addressing this crisis will take time, patience, determination and endless work. If it is not done, there will be no chance of reversing the balance of forces that have favored capitalism and disarmed the working class for far too long. Going forward, there is no practical reason why the mass of workers cannot be organized and thereby better able to engage in class struggle for their immediate needs and for a new world. All that is required for the mass organization of the working class is some understanding of the Marxist theory of historical materialism, some imagination and political will.” _ Larry Holmes, First Secretary of Workers World Party.
