Friday, September 11, 2026. Occupied Lenapehoking (New York City). – The 53th anniversary of the terrorist attack in Chile and the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the United States of America were on Friday, September 11, 2026.

The rally, walk and vigil to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks in the United States of America in Manahatta, Lenapehoking (Manhattan, New York City), was organized by the organization September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows on Thursday, September 10, 2026.

Republican U.S. President Richard Nixon and his administration, particularly National Security Advisor, war criminal Henry Kissinger strongly supported the military coup in Chile that overthrew President Salvador Allende on September 11, 1973.

President Nixon ordered the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to “make the economy scream” in Chile to destabilize Allende’s socialist government after he was elected in 1970.

The U.S. provided substantial financial, propaganda, and intelligence backing to opposition groups and military figures in Chile over the preceding years to create conditions favorable to a takeover.

The first September 11: Washington’s war on the Chilean road to socialism

“On September 11th, 1973, the government of Chilean socialist President Salvador Allende was overthrown in one of the bloodiest U.S.-backed coup d’etats to date. In its wake, a military junta headed by fascist General Augusto Pinochet led a terror campaign on the Chilean people. More than 4,000 Chileans were executed or disappeared, roughly 40,000 were tortured, and hundreds of thousands were forced into political exile.

Washington’s criminal role in the violent overthrow of the Popular Unity government remains a scar on the American continent. In a meeting with CIA Director Richard Helms discussing Allende’s 1970 presidential victory, President Richard Nixon made clear his desires to “make the economy scream”. Washington materialized this wish by a full menu of tactics, dedicating $10 million for covert action towards these goals. Economic pressure, covert political, and paramilitary action were invested in to unseat the people’s movement with Allende at the helm.

Ultimately, while previous right-wing coup attempts had been defeated by mass mobilization prior (such as that on June 29, 1973), the Chilean socialist project was overthrown by September 11th. As bombs fell on the presidential palace in the heart of Santiago, Allende delivered his final address with a message of revolutionary optimism in the face of full-scale counterrevolution: “Go forward knowing that, sooner rather than later, the great avenues will open again where free men will walk to build a better society.” – Salvador Allende, in his final radio address on 9/11/1973,” wrote Horacio Rodriguez on September 11, 2026, on LiberationNews.org, the website of the Party for Socialism & Liberation. USA helped plan the terrorist attack in Chile.

How the bipartisan “War on Terror” created ICE.

“Today marks 25 years since the infamous attacks on the World Trade Center. The Bush administration seized on 9/11 to launch the so-called “War on Terror” — expanding mass surveillance, militarism, and state repression at home and abroad through the PATRIOT Act and the creation of the Department of Homeland Security.

From Bush to Obama, Biden, and Trump, DHS and ICE have not dismantled this machinery of repression — they have maintained and expanded it. But the deportation machine is not invincible. The experience of the Minnesota general strikes shows that when working people organize, shut down business as usual, and build an independent mass movement, we have the power to defeat ICE, the deportation machine, and the capitalist ruling class that depends on them.

Sept. 11, 2001: ‘I knew right away this meant war.’

“It was a beautiful clear early September Tuesday. Instead of leaving early to walk the three miles along the Hudson River to the office, I had stayed home to finish editing. They plotted and ordered invasions of Afghanistan on Oct. 7, 2001, and Iraq in March 2003. Like today’s MAGA regime, the Bush gang made personal gain from its wars, but were quieter about it. They were more concerned with disguising these wars as having a higher purpose –– fighting “terror.” Members of the Bush cabinet, such as Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill and White House Chief Terrorism Adviser Richard Clarke, have written books revealing these plots.

How 9/11 sparked militarization of policing in Black communities

“In the two decades since the September 11 attacks, America’s war on terror has reshaped not only foreign policy but the very streets of its own cities, especially Black communities.

What started as a national response to global terrorism has evolved into the militarization of local police.
Federal funding for local law enforcement surged following the 2001 attacks.

Through programs like the Pentagon’s 1033 Program, billions of dollars in surplus military gear, from armored vehicles to assault rifles and flashbang grenades, were transferred to local police departments across the country.

By 2020, nearly 65% of U.S. law enforcement agencies had received military equipment under these programs.

Police departments also began to embrace counterterrorism training, recruit military veterans, and adopt “warrior” mentalities that prioritized combat readiness over community connection.

“It fundamentally shifted the role of police from guardians to soldiers,” Dr. Jessica Katzenstein, an anthropologist who studies police militarization, said. “The idea of public safety was replaced by public control—particularly in communities of color.”
