Occupied Lenapehoking (New York City). – The 32nd Annual Mexican Independence Day Parade in Manhattan, New York City, took place on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

The 32nd Annual Mexican Independence Day Parade began at approximately 12:00 PM. The parade took place on Madison Avenue, starting at East 38th Street and ending at East 27th Street. Each year, this parade brings the Mexican community together with Mexican music, mariachi bands, floats, Mexican folk dances, dance troupes, traditional Mexican costumes, and much more.

The vast majority of the groups and organizations that participated in the Mexican Independence Parade, as well as the people watching the parade, had Mexican flags. Thousands of Mexican flags adorned the Mexican parade.

The struggle for Mexico’s independence was a war that began on September 16, 1810, and lasted more than 11 years. Mexico officially gained its independence on September 27, 1821.

The Consulate General of Mexico in New York celebrates its 200th anniversary in 2026.

First established as a consular agency in 1826 under Ventura Obregón during Mexico’s early years as an independent nation, it stands as one of Mexico’s oldest and most strategic diplomatic missions in the world.

On September 15, 2026, Mexico’s Consul General in New York, Marcos Bucio, rang the Nasdaq opening bell to commemorate two centuries of economic and cultural ties.

The Consulate General of Mexico in New York hold a large-scale independence festival and concert in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, on September 15, 2026.

On October 2, 2026, Mexico’s Lotería Nacional unveiled a special bicentennial lottery ticket honoring the consulate’s 200 years of service to the migrant community in the tri-state area.

Some of the most representative locations for the Mexican community in New York City are found in neighborhoods such as El Barrio in Harlem, Manhattan, Sunset Park in Brooklyn, Elmhurst and Jackson Heights in Queens, the South Bronx and Port Richmond in Staten Island.
