Wednesday, January 1, 2020. New York City – Today was the 116th Annual Coney Island Polar Bear Club Plunge in Brooklyn, New York City. The Polar Bear Plunge was on the world famous Coney Island Beach. Although it was cold, many of people attended the event.


The Coney Island Polar Bear Club, the organizers say on their website, “This year’s plunge raised funds for the Coney Island community to create a more sustainable and cleaner environment, programming for Coney Island youth as well as improve quality of life for residents.
The Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest winter bathing organization in the United States. We swim in the Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island every Sunday from November through April. Since 1903, we have been hosting a public New Year’s Day Plunge for all brave souls to welcome the New Year.”
