Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Lenapehoking (New York City) – The 56th National Day of Mourning in Cole’s Hill (above Plymouth Rock), Plymouth, Massachusetts will be on Thursday, November 27, 2025 at 12:00 Noon.

There will be a bus from Brooklyn and the Bronx. Click here for information.

Why do people still celebrate Thanksgiving?

In the United States of America, people continue to celebrate Thanksgiving, a holiday that whitewashes the theft of Native American lands, the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Native Americans.

Boycott Thanksgiving, commemorate the National Day of Mourning.

WHAT IS NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING?

According to the United American Indians of New England, the “National Day of Mourning is a solemn, spiritual and highly political day. Many of us fast from sundown the day before through the afternoon of that day (and have a social after NDOM so that participants in NDOM can break their fasts). We are mourning our ancestors and the genocide of our peoples and the theft of our lands. NDOM is a day when we mourn, but we also feel our strength in action and solidarity.”

While many supporters will attend in person, organizers will also livestream the event from Plymouth.

Livestream of the 56th National Day of Mourning from Plymouth, MA, on November 27, 2025. 12:00 PM.

“Since 1970, Indigenous people & their allies have gathered at noon on Cole’s Hill in Plymouth to commemorate a National Day of Mourning on the US Thanksgiving holiday. Many Native people do not celebrate the arrival of the Pilgrims & other European settlers. Thanksgiving Day is a reminder of the genocide of millions of Native people, the theft of Native lands and the erasure of Native cultures. Participants in National Day of Mourning honor Indigenous ancestors and Native resilience. It is a day of remembrance and spiritual connection, as well as a protest against the racism and oppression that Indigenous people continue to experience worldwide.

Join us as we continue to create a true awareness of Native peoples and history. Help shatter the untrue image of the Pilgrims, and the unjust system based on white supremacy, settler colonialism, sexism, homophobia and the profit-driven destruction of the Earth that they and other European settlers introduced to these shores.

Solidarity with Indigenous struggles throughout the world! From Turtle Island to Palestine, Colonialism is a Crime!” says United American Indians of New England (decolonizing since 1970).

Native Americans sue Plymouth over Day of Mourning

“The Native American organization that holds the National Day of Mourning every Thanksgiving in Plymouth sued the town, claiming that new insurance and indemnity requirements breach a 1998 agreement and violates the group’s First Amendment rights.

On Nov. 25, Plymouth Superior Court Judge Daniel Leighton issued an order forbidding the town from requiring an insurance policy, indemnity or permitting. The order also requires Plymouth to provide a stage on Cole’s Hill, in conformity with the 1998 agreement and almost 30 years of practice.

The United American Indians of New England and its co-leader, Mahtowin Monro, a woman of the Oglala Sioux tribe who lives in Sherborn, filed a request for emergency injunctive relief in Plymouth Superior Court on Monday, Nov. 24,” reports Peter Blandino on www.metrowestdailynews.com.
