Since 1974, every April 17 is “Palestinian Prisoners Day.” The 52nd anniversary was on April 17, 2026.

The rally was in Herald Square. People from different organizations spoke in support of Palestinian HOSTAGES (prisoners).

After the rally, peaceful pro-Palestine, anti-GENOCIDE New Yorkers marched on 6th Ave, also named Avenue of the Americas.

Protestors passed in front of the monuments to the patriarch of Brazilian independence, Jose Bonifacio de Andrada e Silva and former Mexican president Benito Pablo Juárez García in Bryant Park, Fox News and The Wall Street Journal located at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, also known as the News Corp., Radio City Music Hall, the monuments of Venezuelan Simón Bolívar (Bolivar is credited with the liberation from Spanish domination of Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, and Panama.), Cuban patriot José Martí and Argentinian Jose de San Martin (nicknamed “the Liberator of Argentina, Chile and Peru”) in Central Park and 6th Ave. They ended the protest at Lenape Circle (officially called Columbus Circle).

Organizers invited people to the May Day protest “NO WAR, NO ICE, NO BILLIONAIRES!” on May 1st, 2026 in Union Square at 2 PM. Click here for more information.

“We’re gathered in New York City in commemoration of the 52nd Palestinian Prisoners’ Day, rallying against the detention and torture of innocent Palestinians in Israeli prisons and demanding freedom for all political prisoners.

The passage of the “Prisoner Execution Law” alongside Israel’s ongoing efforts to dispossess Palestinians from their land, continues to escalate violence—from the genocide in Gaza to the relentless targeting of Palestinian prisoners.

We’re out here because Palestinians are still facing detention, abuse, and imprisonment while the world watches, with the backing of the United States. We will keep showing up, louder and stronger, until every Palestinian prisoner is free and the Israeli occupation ends,” said the New York City Chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement on April 18, 2026.

This Prisoners’ Day, we march for our parents, brothers, and sisters as the depraved Zionist settler colonial project continues to hold our loved ones behind bars, alongside the passage of a vile execution law that solely targets Palestinians and supports the broader attempt to genocide our people. We take to the streets in defiance and solidarity with our prisoners who have taken on the ultimate sacrifice defending the land.

We will remain in the streets until every Zionist dungeon is emptied, until every one of our prisoners is free from the genocide behind bars,” added the New York City Chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement.

“Since 1974, Palestinians have chosen April 17th to commemorate our prisoners and their struggle. Our prisoners are the compass of our movement. On Prisoners Day, we march to honor those enduring the cruelty of the colonial Zionist entity, whose tireless courage and steadfastness remind us that Zionist prisons cannot contain the fight for their freedom or the national liberation of Palestine.

More than a week ago, on March 30, the Israeli Knesset passed the “Prisoner Execution Law,” legalizing death by hanging, a measure that, in practice, would target only Palestinians. This bill comes amid the settler-colonial Zionist entity’s ongoing efforts to dispossess Palestinians from their land and escalate their barbaric assaults, from the genocide in Gaza to the relentless attacks on our prisoners.

Routinely, Palestinian prisoners in Zionist dungeons confront systematic abuse, including torture, starvation, and medical neglect. Thousands are held under administrative detention without charge or trial. These dungeons are sites of dehumanization, where the occupier seeks to break the will of the people and erase resistance through fear and punishment.

It is our duty to stand with our prisoners! Join us in the streets in New York City to assert the right for our prisoners to live free and dignified.

May every prisoner be free and may the Zionist jails crumble,” said the New York City Chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement on April 7, 2026.
