“This #1 New York Times Best Selling Book, HEALING THE SHAME THAT BINDS YOU, was written years ago with millions of copies sold and is still selling more than 13,000 copies every year, has been completely updated and expanded by the author John Bradshaw.
“I used to drink,” writes John Bradshaw, “to solve the problems caused by drinking. The more I drank to relieve my shame-based loneliness and hurt, the more I felt ashamed.”
Shame is the motivator behind our toxic behaviors: the compulsion, co-dependency, addiction, and drive to superachieve that breaks down the family and destroys personal lives. It limits the development of self esteem and causes anxiety and depression, and limits our ability to be connected in relationships. This book has helped millions identify their personal shame, understand the underlying reasons for it, address these root causes, and release themselves from the shame that binds them to their past failures.”
“Most of us yearn for a life free of fear, pain, insecurity, and doubt. We long for peace, for the ability to love and be loved openly and freely, and the confidence and clarity to meet the various challenges we face in our daily lives.
In OPEN HEART, OPEN MIND, Tsoknyi Rinpoche – one of the most beloved of the contemporary generation of Tibetan Buddhist meditation masters – explains that such a life is not only possible: it’s our birthright. Within each of us resides a spark of unparalleled brilliance, an unlimited capacity for warmth, openness, and courage, which Rinpoche identifies as “essence love.”
Timeless and imperishable, essence love is often layered over by patterns of behavior and belief that urge us to seek happiness in conditions or situations that never quite live up to their promise.”
“In 2013 Assata Shakur, founding member of the Black Liberation Army, former Black Panther and godmother of Tupac Shakur, became the first ever woman to make the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list.
Assata Shakur’s trial and conviction for the murder of a white state trooper in the spring of 1973 divided America. Her case quickly became emblematic of race relations and police brutality in the USA. While Assata’s detractors continue to label her a ruthless killer, her defenders cite her as the victim of a systematic, racist campaign to criminalize and suppress black nationalist organizations.
This intensely personal and political autobiography reveals a sensitive and gifted woman, far from the fearsome image of her that is projected by the powers that be. With wit and candour Assata recounts the formative experiences that led her to embrace a life of activism. With pained awareness she portrays the strengths, weaknesses and eventual demise of black and white revolutionary groups at the hands of the state.
A major contribution to the history of black liberation, destined to take its place alongside The Autobiography of Malcolm X and the works of Maya Angelou.” – Assata – An Autobiography. Assata Shakur.
“Considered by many to be Seth’s “greatest” work, The Nature of Personal Reality (by Jane Roberts) is simply the best manual ever written on the art of consciously creating your reality. In it Seth provides a clear articulation of how people create their reality from their thoughts, emotions and beliefs and provides the tools for individuals to truly take charge of their minds and their lives. To this day it stands out as one of the finest metaphysical books ever written!”
“In Fire Shut Up in My Bones, New York Times columnist Charles M. Blow mines the rich poetry of the out-of-time Louisiana town where he grew up — a place where slavery’s legacy felt close, reverberating in the elders’ stories and in the near-constant wash of violence.
An isolated boy, Blow is fiercely attached to his mother, a woman with five sons, brass knuckles in her glove box, a job plucking poultry, a soon-to-be ex-husband, and a love of newspapers and learning. But the closeness doesn’t protect him from secret abuse at the hands of an older cousin. It’s damage that triggers years of searing self-questioning.
Drawing on nothing but fleeting images from the outside world — MLK, Prince Charles — and on Blow’s own uncanny inner life, he remakes himself into someone who looks like a “popular boy.”
Finally, he escapes to a nearby state university, joining a black fraternity after a passage of brutal hazing. Here Blow enters a world of racial and sexual privilege that feels — at first — like everything he’s ever needed and wanted.
From one of our most acclaimed public voices, a bravely personal, one-of-a-kind story of self-invention — an instant classic of African-American storytelling from the South.”
“The Motivation Manifesto (by Brendon Burchard) is a pulsing, articulate, ferocious call to claim our personal power. World-renowned high performance trainer Brendon Burchard reveals that the main motive of humankind is the pursuit of greater Personal Freedom. We desire the grand liberties of choice – time freedom, emotional freedom, social freedom, financial freedom, spiritual freedom. Only two enemies stand in our way: an external enemy, defined as the social oppression of who we are by the mediocre masses and an internal enemy, a sort of self-oppression caused by our own doubt and fear.
The march to Personal Freedom, Burchard argues, can be won only by declaring our intent and independence, stepping into our personal power, and battling through self-doubt and the distractions of the day until full victory is won. Recalling the revolutionist voices of the past that chose freedom over tyranny, Burchard – at times poetic yet always fierce – motivates us to free ourselves from fear and take back our lives once and for all.”
“In the spirit of Maya Angelou’s I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Frank McCourt’s Angela’s Ashes, and Piri Thomas’s Down These Mean Streets, this powerful memoir by writer and activist Kevin Powell vividly recounts the horrific poverty of his youth, his struggles to overcome a legacy of anger, violence, and self-hatred, and his journey to be a man and a voice for others.
Driven by his single mother’s dreams for his survival and success, Powell became the first in his family to attend a university, where he became a student leader keenly aware of widespread social injustice. But the struggle to define himself and break out of poverty continued into adulthood, with traumatic periods of homelessness and despair. As a young star journalist with Vibe magazine, Powell interviewed luminaries such as Tupac Shakur, writing influential chronicles of the evolution of hiphop from his eyewitness view. Now, with searing honesty, Powell examines his troubled relationships, his appearance on MTV’s first season of “The Real World,” his battles with alcohol and depression, his two campaigns for Congress, and the uplifting trip to Africa that renewed his sense of personal mission. Finally, Powell embarks on a search for the father he never really knew in a redemptive passage from abandonment to self-discovery.
A striking memoir by a child of post-Civil Rights America, The Education of Kevin Powell gives eloquent testimony to the power of the soul to heal.”
“Getting the Love you Want (by Harville Hendrix) gives couples the concepts and tools they need to achieve safety, sustain deep connection, and experience joyful aliveness. It can bring you healing, wholeness, and spiritual growth by addressing your childhood and relational wounds, and activating undeveloped potential. You and your partner can reach deeper levels by moving from an unconscious to a conscious relationship using Imago Relationship Therapy, a transformational approach that allows you to experience new levels of safety and appreciation.”
Tammy Nelson, Ph.D. says in the article Getting The Love You Want, “(Harville) Hendrix says that we always choose a partner that mirrors the places in us that we need to develop in ourselves.”
Tammy, adds “Our partners help us to find those places within us that need healing. Don’t underestimate your choice in a mate. It’s no mistake that you are with the person you are with. The person you choose is ideally suited to help you finish off the unfinished growth of your childhood. We always choose the perfect person to help us grow into our highest selves. However, it’s hard to grow. And so we resist. We don’t like to change.”
“These firsthand accounts by survivors once diagnosed as terminally ill will appeal to those who found comfort in Norman Cousins’s Anatomy of an Illness. In informative, inspiring commentaries, Massachusetts psychologist Roud writes that those who overcome cancer or other fatal diseases share a will to live, positive mental attitude and the ability to alter lifestyle. As one patient here notes, “It was either change or die.” This outlook is the key, according to Roud, to these “miracles.””
“According to psychologist Roud, medical science grossly understates the incidence of extraordinary recovery from serious illness. To bridge this “information gap,” Roud interviewed in depth 11 men and women who have conquered overwhelming medical odds–against cancer, heart disease, cystic fibrosis, and severe mental illness. Although each found his or her own way back to health, the factor that Roud sees as setting them apart from others who were not so fortunate was their ability to change and grow. Readers looking for easy answers will not find them here, nor will they find the sheer exuberance that they find in the books of Roud’s friend, Dr. Bernie Siegel, but those looking for hope that they too can change their lives, that they too can overcome tremendous medical odds, will find it.” – Making Miracles: An Exploration into the Dynamics of Self-Healing by Paul C. Roud.
“We’re taught to think of love as something that happens to us. It’s a magical but altogether passive experience. In her deeply personal and emphatic All about Love, renowned social activist and feminist bell hooks asserts that, in fact, love is a choice we must all make and it’s not nearly as abstract or elusive as many of us have come to believe. The book not only explores the role of love in our lives and the ways our culture has distorted its meaning, but guides us — with clear definitions and examples — toward a better understanding of how to cultivate it. If you’ve ever wondered why some relationships stand the test of time while others crumble, you should read this book.

“There is a fundamental opportunity for happiness right within our reach, yet we usually miss it – ironically while we are caught up in attempts to escape pain and suffering. Drawn from traditional Buddhist wisdom, Pema’s radical and compassionate advice for what to do when things fall apart in our lives goes against the grain of our usual habits and expectations. There is only one approach to suffering that is of lasting benefit, Pema teaches, and that approach involves moving toward painful situations with friendliness and curiosity, relaxing into the essential groundlessness of our entire situation. It is there, in the midst of chaos, that we can discover the truth and love that are indestructible.” – When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chödrön.
“With its first great victory in the landmark Supreme Court decision, Brown vs. Board of Education in 1954, the Civil Rights movement gained the powerful momentum it needed to sweep forward into its crucial decade, the 1960s. As voices of protest and change rose above the din of history and false promises, one sounded more urgently, more passionately than the rest. Malcolm X – once called the most dangerous man in America – challenged the world to listen and learn the truth as he experienced it. And his enduring message is as relevant today as when he first delivered it. This is the first hardcover edition of this classic autobiography since it was originally published in 1964. In its searing pages, Malcolm X the Muslim leader, firebrand, and anti-integrationist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Black Muslim movement to veteran writer and journalist Alex Haley. In a unique collaboration, Alex Haley worked with Malcolm X for nearly two years, interviewing, listening to, and understanding the most controversial leader of his time. Raised in Lansing, Michigan, Malcolm Little’s road to world fame was as astonishing as it was unpredictable. After drifting from childhood poverty to petty crime, Malcolm found himself in jail. It was there that he came into contact with the teachings of a little-known Black Muslim leader named Elijah Muhammed. The newly renamed Malcolm X devoted himself body and soul to the teachings of Elijah Muhammed and the world of Islam, and became the Nation’s foremost spokesman. When his own conscience forced him to break with Elijah Muhammed, Malcolm founded the Organization of Afro-American Unity, to reach African Americans across the country with an inspiring message of pride, power, and self-determination. The Autobiography of Malcolm X defines American culture and the African-American struggle for social and economic equality that has now become a battle for survival.”
“Using Stanford University’s voluminous collection of archival material, including previously unpublished writings, interviews, recordings, and correspondence, King scholar Clayborne Carson has constructed a remarkable first-person account of Dr. King’s extraordinary life.”
“Martin Luther King, Jr. was an American Baptist minister, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs.”
Geronimo (Mescalero-Chiricahua: Goyaa?é “the one who yawns”; June 1829 – February 17, 1909) was a prominent leader of the Bedonkohe Apache. Apache is the collective term for several culturally related groups of Native Americans originally from the Southwest United States. Geronimo’s Chiricahua name is often rendered in English as Goyathlay or Goyahkla. In 1886, after a lengthy pursuit, Geronimo surrendered to Arizona faux-gubernatorial authorities as a prisoner of war. At an old age, he became a celebrity, appearing at fairs, but he was never allowed to return to the land of his birth.
“The Bhagavad- Gita is considered by eastern and western scholars alike to be among the greatest spiritual books the world has ever known. In a very clear and wonderful way the Supreme Lord Krishna describes the science of self-realization and the exact process by which a human being can establish their eternal relationship with God. In terms of pure, spiritual knowledge the Bhagavad- Gita is incomparable. Its intrinsic beauty is that its knowledge applies to all human beings and does not postulate any sectarian idealogy or secular view. It is appproachable from the sanctified realms of all religions and is glorified as the epitome of all spiritual teachings.
This is because proficiency in the Bhagavad- Gita reveals the eternal principles which are fundamental and essential for spiritual life from all perspectives and allows one to perfectly understand the esoteric truths hidden within all religious scriptures. Many great thinkers from our times such as Albert Einstein, Mahatma Gandhi and Albert Schweizer as well as Madhvacarya, Sankara and Ramanuja from bygone ages have all contemplated and deliberarted upon its timeless message. The primary purpose of the Bhagavad- Gita is to illuminate for all of humanity the realization of the true nature of divinity; for the highest spiritual conception and the greatest material perfection is to attain love of God!”_www.Bhagavad-Gita.org
“A Course in Miracles is a complete self-study spiritual thought system. As a three-volume curriculum consisting of a Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers, it teaches that the way to universal love and peace—or remembering God—is by undoing guilt through forgiving others. The Course thus focuses on the healing of relationships and making them holy. A Course in Miracles also emphasizes that it is but one version of the universal curriculum, of which there are “many thousands.” Consequently, even though the language of the Course is that of traditional Christianity, it expresses a non-sectarian, non-denominational spirituality. A Course in Miracles therefore is a universal spiritual teaching, not a religion.”_The Foundation for Inner Peace
“When journalist, playwright and filmmaker Maziar Bahari left London in June 2009 to cover Iran’s presidential election, he assured his pregnant fiancée, Paola, that he’d be back in just a few days, a week at most. Little did he know that he would spend the next 118 days in a six-by-twelve feet prison in Tehran’s notorious Evin prison.
Now, in a riveting, heart-wrenching memoir, Then They Came for Me, Bahari provides an in-depth account of the days leading up to the fiercely contested election and the clashes between Iranian citizens and government police that followed.”_AsiaSociety.org

“The Noble Qur’an (with those words understood here as referring to this particular translation, rather than the Quran itself – also commonly called ‘Noble’ by Muslims) is a translation of the Qur’an by contemporary Pakistani scholar Muhammad Muhsin Khan and Moroccan scholar Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din al-Hilali. It is informally known as the Hilali-Khan translation.
“This English translation was sponsored by the Saudi government and is provided free. It has been reported[by whom?] to be the most popular and “Now the most widely disseminated Qur’an in most Islamic bookstores and Sunni mosques throughout the English-speaking world, this new translation is meant to replace the Yusuf ‘Ali edition and comes with a seal of approval from both the University of Medina and the Saudi Dar al-Ifta. … [T]his Saudi-financed venture tries to impose the commentaries of Tabari (d. 923 C.E.), Qurtubi (d. 1273 C.E.), and Ibn Kathir (d. 1372 C.E.)”.”_Wikipedia.org
“In his first book, The Brain That Changes Itself, Norman Doidge introduced readers to the most important change in our understanding of the brain since the beginning of modern science: the discovery that the brain can change its own structure and function in response to mental experience—the phenomenon of neuroplasticity. Now, his revolutionary new book, The Brain’s Way of Healing, shows, for the first time, how the amazing process of neuroplastic healing really works.
“Neuroplastic healing is truly one of the life-changing breakthroughs of modern science—“mind-bending, miracle-making, reality-busting stuff,” in the words of The New York Times, describing Doidge’s first book. Here, he uses both astonishing, moving human stories and reports from the frontiers of an exciting field in brain science, putting it all together to help us recognize how mind, brain, and body, as well as the energies around us, are all essential elements that combine in health and healing. This is a book with the potential to transform, to heal, and to offer hope.”_www.NormanDoidge.com
“Growing up in a tranquil wilderness, Teal Swan had a childhood that was anything but serene. Horrors lurked behind the façade of the perfect houses and pious community of the surrounding towns, and Teal attracted undue attention because of her unusually powerful extrasensory abilities. At the hands of a local cult member, she barely survived 13 years of horrendous abuse—and even after her escape, she was left powerless, lost, hurting, and with no way to cope. Gradually, and incredibly, Teal forged her way from shadowy moments of despair to a sliver of light . . . and eventually emerged from the darkness into the full dawn of self-love. Here, she shows how you, too, can achieve the feelings of worthiness that may be long missing from your life.”
“Now a recognized spiritual luminary, Teal documents how she dug herself out of self-hate into self-love, and details the remarkable trail for others to get to the same place. Shadows Before Dawn encompasses both Teal’s compelling story, told with raw intensity, and her resolute, no-nonsense how-to guide to healing from even the deepest levels of suffering. Offering a comprehensive self-love tool kit, this book includes powerful exercises, insights, and perspective from a captivating new teacher in spirituality, and lets you pick and choose which techniques are right for you.”_www.HayHouse.com

In The Emotion Code, renowned holistic physician and lecturer Dr. Bradley Nelson skillfully lays bare the inner workings of the subconscious mind. He reveals how emotionally-charged events from your past can still be haunting you in the form of “trapped emotions”; emotional energies that literally inhabit your body.
“People often sense that they have emotional issues, but don’t know how to get past them. The feelings that seem to be in their way are often due to their trapped emotions. They are usually amazed to find out that their emotional baggage often consists of discrete energies that became trapped during emotional events they experienced in their past. They are even more amazed to see how easily these energies can be found and removed and by how different they feel when they are freed from them.”_Dr. Bradley Nelson.
Neville Symington is the author of established psychoanalytic classics including Emotion and Spirit; Narcissism: A New Theory; The Making of a Psychotherapist; The Spirit of Sanity; A Pattern of Madness and How to Choose a Psychotherapist. His previous volume A Pattern of Madness is a magnum opus which gives psychoanalysis a new theoretical structure.
‘Neville Symington approaches the well trodden subject of narcissism and offers us fresh insights from his long clinical experience with patients suffering from this disorder. The camera angle he employs is both unusual and enlightening. He has come to understand the narcissistic subject, not only from the well known Kleinian instinctual grandiosity/manic defense standpoint or from the trauma deficit conceptions of Fairbairn, Winnicott, Balint and Kohut, but also from the unique perspective of profound ontological insecurity.’Ecumenical in his outlook, though trained in the British Independent School of which he is a senior member, he looks at this disorder from what might today be called an existential point of departure. The infant/child becomes narcissistically disordered by making an unconscious choice, either towards the life giver (its authenticity or spontaneity) or to its disavowal and the use of magical pretence in order to avoid external reality.’Symington’s concept of the life giver in its role in normal and abnormal narcissism constitutes a unique and integrating perspective on this entity and deserves serious consideration.’- From the Foreword by James S. Grotstein’Everyone interested in contemporary psychoanalysis should read Neville Symington’s account of his own concepts of the nature of narcissism, both theoretically and, above all, clinical. Melanie Klein, little interested in Freud’s idea of primary narcissism, would, I think, have appreciated the Symington approach, based as it is on relationships to internal objects and the repudiation of such relationships. Symington believes that narcissism, thus produced, is the ultimate source of psychopathology in general. In addition to many clinical examples from his practice, extensive use is made of Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina to illustrate his thesis in many ways.’- William Gillespie’This is an absorbing book because the author is wrestling with a problem that many of us share. Symington realized that he was not sure what narcissism was. So with commendable self-discipline, as a busy psychoanalyst, he put aside twenty minutes every day to think about this topic, later to discuss his notes with psychoanalytic colleagues. This book is the result of that thinking. Thus, it has a directness and immediacy as though we are sitting next to the author and discussing narcissism with him. As such, it will illuminate the thinking of everyone who reads this original and accessible book.’- Frances Tustin
Author, artist, and clinical psychologist Robert W. Firestone and collaborator Joyce Cattlet dig deep into the psychology of destructive behavior?both its source and how it manifests itself in personal relationships between men, women, couples, and families, and in the social arena.
They posit that if we can understand the source of aggressiveness and learn to cope with the urges it impels, we can better rear future generations and improve mental health practices in general. This position offers a hope of altering what many people consider to be humankinds’s basically unethical nature.
Provocative and vital, this groundbreaking book delves into the complex world of female desire and discovers that, sadly, women often want to be wanted rather than to be fully engaged with life.
Instead of being able to know what they really want or who they really are, women have been conditioned to accept images — the good daughter, the nice friend, the ideal boss, the perfect mother — to define themselves through reflections from others. As a result, self-direction, self-determination, and self-confidence are undermined from adolescence through old age. A double bind comes to surround female desire: a woman is damned as “the bitch” if she is direct and self-determining; but she is confused and indirect if she plays the Object of Desire.
Dr. Young-Eisendrath shows us how to break out of this double bind so that we can encounter the challenges of choice and responsibility for our own desires. She wisely uses mythological and personal stories to help us take control of our sexual, relational, material, and spiritual lives. If you feel confused, resentful, or trapped in a life that does not seem to be fully yours, then you can find a clear path to your true self, once and for all, with the help of Women and Desire.
For more than fifteen years, Caroline Myss has studied why some people heal, while others do not. In her previous book, Anatomy of the Spirit, Dr. Myss illuminated the hidden interactions of belief and body, soul and cell to show how, as she inimitably puts it, “your biography becomes your biology.” In this new book, she builds on her earlier teachings of the seven different energy centers of the body to provide a vital self-healing program for physical and spiritual disorders. With her characteristic no-nonsense style and high-voltage storytelling, she exposes and explodes the five myths about healing, explains the cultural and individual contexts in which people become physically and spiritually ill and invested in “woundology,” and teaches new methods of working with the challenges that the seven energy centers embody.
Both visionary and practical, Why People Don’t Heal and How They Can presents a bold new account of the development of human consciousness and spirituality over the ages, and examines the dynamic global transformation of attitudes about healing. To help you get and stay on the path to wellness, Dr. Myss provides rituals and prayers for gaining a symbolic perspective on your life issues; for bolstering your personal power; and for connecting with a universal divine energy. Dr. Myss’s breakthrough views on energy medicine and her active approach to healing life issues and physical illness will help you overcome the mental blocks that keep you from becoming well.
