Friday, May 29, 2020. New York City – I went to cover the rally in support of George Floyd at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NYC. There were hundreds of people.
NYPD officers pepper sprayed protestors, a National Lawyers Guild Observer and they (police officers) pepper sprayed me too. Thanks to the protestors that helped me. They put milk and water in my eyes. It was so painful. Protestors also gave me clean masks and helped me to take transportation.
UPDATED on 5/30/2020.
There was another rally at Foley Square in Manhattan, New York City. The Guardian reports that there were rallies in Minneapolis, Atlanta, Kentucky, New York and California.
Cornel West said to Anderson Cooper: “We are witnessing America as a failed social experiment.”
Minnesota governor Timothy James Walz and the Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey are Democrats. New York governor Andrew Cuomo and NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio are Democrats. Police brutality is the same in red states and blue states.
Joe Biden says that nothing will change is he is the president. Why would people vote for a politician if police brutality will not change. Why would people vote for Joe Biden is he will not do anything about ending police brutality in the country?
If you want to change the racist system, then stop voting for the same centrist Democrat politicians.
The Green Party is an option in 2020. https://www.gp.org/
Assemblywoman Diana Richardson was also pepper sprayed while peacefully protesting at the Barclays Center.
NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio said: “The NYPD respects and protects peaceful protests.” Watch the videos below:
Organizers say on Facebook that there will be rallies tomorrow, Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 3PM at different locations.
Manhattan: Union Square
The Bronx: the Hub (149th and 3rd ave)
Brooklyn: Parkside Ave and Ocean ave
Queens: Diversity Plaza (74th st and Roosevelt Ave)
Justice for George Floyd!
“Join People’s Power Assemblies as we show solidarity with the activists and folks on the ground in Minneapolis who are protesting the sadistic murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. The horrific videos, as well as the current COVID19 pandemic – shows what Black people have known for centuries – in a society built upon white supremacy, Black bodies are seen as disposable. But we say NO! BLACK LIVES WILL ALWAYS MATTER! We demand justice for George Floyd, his children and family. Justice for ALL BLACK LIVES taken by police murder, vigilantes and mobs. We demand justice for the survivors, Blacks folks who were maimed, disabled, and traumatized by police and agents of the state. Please note Saturday at 3pm is in solidarity to national actions, however if it is still raining heavily by 2:15 pm, we will postpone the action to Sunday, 2pm. The COVID19 pandemic is ongoing – wear a mask, and socially disrupt at least 6 feet apart.
Abolish the Police!
Jail Killer Cops!”
