Wednesday, June 3, 2020. New York City – Yesterday, Tuesday, June 2, 2020, I covered the rally at The Stonewall Inn in Manhattan. After the rally people marched to Union Square and then to the Lower Manhattan. The new curfew started at 8 P.M. Some peaceful protestors were arrested. The curfew in New York City exempts members of the press.

Today, Minnesota attorney general Keith Ellison elevated the murder charge against ex-police officer Derek Chauvin and the three other police officers fired over the killing of George Floyd have been charged too.
Chauvin will now be charged with second-degree murder, and officers Tou Thao, J. Alexander Kueng and Thomas Lane will be charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder.

Benjamin Crump, Esq., the attorney representing the Floyd family said on Twitter, “FAMILY’S REACTION: This is a bittersweet moment. We are deeply gratified that @AGEllison took decisive action, arresting & charging ALL the officers involved in #GeorgeFloyd’s death & upgrading the charge against Derek Chauvin to felony second-degree murder. #JusticeForGeorge.”

Yesterday, Bernie Sanders said, “Those in power who want us to focus on looting and property damage instead of the thousands peacefully protesting are trying to distract us from the terrible violence that engulfs the lives of working people every day. As Coretta Scott King reminded us, violence takes many forms.”

Bernie Sanders, “This is an unprecedented moment for our country. To keep the focus on the urgent need for justice for George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and too many others victims of police violence, we are postponing our virtual “A People’s Graduation” tomorrow.”

NYPD officers shot and killed Malik Tyquan Graves in Crown Heights, Brooklyn yesterday night around 9 P.M.. NYPD Chief of Department Terence A. Monahan said that approximately 10 officers fired at the man. Police officers shot the Black man 19 times. He said the Graves had a gun and the shooting was not related to the ongoing protests over the killing of George Floyd by police officers in Minneapolis.

News 12 spoke to Motique Graves. She is Malik’s mother who says she can’t understand why police had to kill him.

“We just lost my mother, we didn’t even bury her yet,” said Graves. “It’s not right, it’s not right. They could’ve just shot him in the arm, they could have arrested him. I’d rather him be in jail then dead, but they didn’t have to kill him.”

People on Twitter say, “The media is saying the shooting last night in Brooklyn is unrelated to the protests. WE ARE PROTESTING POLICE BRUTALITY. 10 Police officers — shot him NINETEEN times. That’s what we’re protesting. Where’s the restraint they seem to have given Dylann Roof who killed nine people?”

“Whether he had a weapon or not, no one should be shot 19 times. That’s blatant overkill and straight up disrespectful. Imagine a mother having to see her son with 19 bullet wounds in his body. How does that not make you sick to your stomach.”

“Police can shoot one black person 19+ times when he’s carrying a gun yet 2 weeks ago when all these white men were lined up with military weapons in your face yelling about haircuts y’all didn’t bat an eye.”

The Legal Aid Society said on Twitter today, “As of this morning, 295 NYers in Manhattan alone have been languishing in detention for 24+ hours, deprived of their right to quickly see a judge and needlessly placed at increased risk of contracting COVID-19. Total count held 24+ hours citywide is now roughly 400 NYers.”
