New Yorkers demand justice for Breonna Taylor (PHOTOS/VIDEO).

Thursday, June 11, 2020. New York City – Today I covered this rally in Brooklyn. People gathered in Crown Heights and marched to Barclays Center. Protestors demand justice for Breonna Taylor. They also want NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio to defund the NYPD.

Breonna Taylor’s lawyer Ben Crump said today on Twitter, “I’m appalled by LMPD’s nearly BLANK incident report from the investigation of #BreonnaTaylor’s murder. It lists “NONE” under Breonna’s injuries… She was SHOT 8 TIMES!! It took 3 months to produce and release this report publicly – and THIS is what we get?!”

“A pioneer and fierce advocate for justice, equality, and civil rights, attorney Ben Crump quickly took on George Floyd’s case, as well as the murder of 25-year old Ahmaud Arbery by a father-son vigilante team and the murder of Breonna Taylor, an emergency medical technician, by police intruding into her home.

These cases rightfully sparked outrage over police brutality and overreach, as well as the lack of police discipline, as officers routinely are put on paid leave or receive proverbial slaps on the wrist after these kinds of heinous acts.”

Tanya A. Christian writes on essence.com, “Breonna Taylor, a Louisville EMT worker and aspiring nurse who was working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, was shot and killed in her home by three white police officers on March 13. None of the officers have been charged in connection to her case, but new details are beginning to emerge about the men responsible for taking her life.

One officer in particular, Brett Hankinson, is accused of being a “dirty cop” and more than one woman has come forward to say he sexually assaulted them. The accusations which were originally made on social media, have, according to People, caught the attention of the Louisville Metro Police, who plan to initiate an investigation into the matter.”

There will be more protests on Friday, June 12, 2020.

On Wednesday, June 10, 2020, Bernie Sanders said on Twitter, “It’s time to ban the use of rubber bullets, tear gas and pepper spray on protesters across this country. No more.” Watch the video:

Adalah Justice Project says, “This rebellion is rooted in love. To protest for Black life, to demand dignity, to cry out for justice, is love.

Today, rebellions out of love are happening throughout this nation, an empire built on the backs of Black people who were kidnapped from their homelands and subjected to violent repression for over 400 years. We stand in  full support of this Black uprising. We remain fully committed to Black liberation and defending Black life across the globe and within our own communities.

There is a long legacy of Black-Palestinian solidarity and a radical understanding that the Black liberation struggle is an anti-colonial fight that is transnational and connected to the struggles of oppressed peoples across the globe. As we recognize the connections between the Palestinian and Black struggles, we must also recognize that there are historical and contextual differences between our struggles. Now is not the time for drawing parallels that flatten Black history, minimizing police brutality in the U.S. to a product of training in Israel, or redirecting attention away from Black trauma to Israeli state violence. It is our duty to center the demands and voices of Black communities in the US who have been resisting systematic oppression and white supremacy over four centuries.
