They marched “in solidarity and support of the fight of systemic racism.” People marched from Nostrand Avenue and Church Avenue to The Rugby Deliverance Tabernacle on 4901 Snyder ave.

George Floyd was a father. Rayshard Brooks was a father. Eric Garner was a father. Sean Bell was a father. Delrawn Smalls was a father. Alton Sterling was a father. Walter Scott was a father. Bobby Gross was a father. Terence Crutcher was a father. Sam Dubose was a father. Oscar Grant was a father. Philando Castile was a father. Donald Ivy was a father. Deonte Dorsey was a father.

Bernie Sanders said today on Twitter, “Jane and I want to take this opportunity to wish all the fathers in our country a Happy Father’s Day. There is nothing more important than giving our kids the love and support they need.”

“Father’s Day is a day of honoring fatherhood and paternal bonds, as well as the influence of fathers in society. In Catholic countries of Europe, it has been celebrated on March 19 as Saint Joseph’s Day since the Middle Ages. In America, Father’s Day was founded by Sonora Smart Dodd, and celebrated on the third Sunday of June for the first time in 1910. It is held on various days in many parts of the world all throughout the year, often in the months of March, May and June. Father’s day complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Mother’s Day, Siblings Day and Grandparents’ Day.”_Wikipedia.org

VOCAL-NY will have the rally “Occupy NYC City Hall to #DefundNYPD Protest!” on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at 5PM at City Hall in Manhattan. VOCAL-NY says, “The call for defunding the police and reinvesting in community needs is taking hold across the country and in New York. Last week the New York City Council proposed a $1 billion divestment from the NYPD. Mayor de Blasio has acknowledged the need to decrease the NYPD’s $6 billion budget, but quickly shot down the Council’s proposal.

Join us in-person at NYC City Hall or online for a protest to defund the NYPD and invest in communities – one week before the city budget is finalized on Tuesday, June 30th. Please bring masks and a commitment to personal steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19. We will provide masks for those who need them.”
