“Not in our city. Not on our watch”.

Demonstrators gathered at Foley Square Park where they had a rally. Speakers spoke in support of undocumented immigrants, Trans women, Trans men and the Black community.

After the rally, demonstrators marched to Park Row and Worth St where activists staged a Die-in for victims of police brutality in New York and in the country.

Protesters demanded the resignation of the New York City Police Commissioner, Dermot Shea. Dermot was appointed by the New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio in December 2019. Shea is the 44th NYPD commissioner.

Jon Blistein wrote the article “NYPD’s ‘Warrant Squad’ Arrested a Trans Teen Protester, Shoved Her Into an Unmarked Van.” It says in part, “On Tuesday, July 28th, videos began circulating on social media of an 18-year-old trans woman, Nikki Stone, being grabbed by a group of plainclothes New York Police Department officers and shoved into an unmarked van during a protest in Manhattan.

The footage of Stone’s arrest recalled similar videos from the recent protests in Portland, Oregon, though instead of unidentified federal agents dragging protesters into unmarked vans, this arrest was carried out by an NYPD division called the “warrant squad.”

Perhaps even more relevant to this moment: In 2012, The New York Time reported that the warrant squad was going after people with extremely low-level violations, such as open-container alcohol violations. Those who were targeted said that when police arrived, they seemed more intent on gathering information about Occupy Wall Street protests planned for that May Day.”

Nikki Stone was released shortly after midnight on Wednesday, July 29th, 2020.

One of the organizers, Freedom March NYC says on their website freedommarchnyc.com, “This is OUR city and our rights WILL be protected! For over two months now we have been vehemently protesting the mistreatment of black people under the law, systemic racism, and rampant injustices plaguing New York City. The response by law enforcement? To silence & intimidate the people. NYC, this is our streets. The NYPD is deploying scare tactics to silence protestors and the movement. This week, an organizers was abducted in an unmarked van by plainclothes police officers. This is our city and our rights will be respected.”

The same organizers had a press conference at 12 P. M. to denounce NYPD tactics. Protesters said NYPD officers kidnapped the Trans woman protester.

Watch the video of NYPD officers “kidnapping” Nikki Stone on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 and the video of the press conference on Thursday, July 30, 2020.

Video shows NYPD officers arresting a Trans woman. People say it looks like NYPD officers were kidnapping the Trans woman.
