Friday, November 6, 2020. Manhattan, New York City – Yesterday, Thursday, November 5, 2020, I covered the rally and march, “WE CHOOSE FREEDOM.”
Organizers said on Instagram before the demonstration, “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will not give me Freedom. No politician can help us win because there are no good politicians in a racist system. Come out tomorrow and let this city know Abolition is Liberation.”
If you voted for Joe Biden, you voted for the the man that wrote the Crime Bill. If you voted for Joe Biden, you voted for one of the politicians that created mass incarceration. Mass incarceration is affecting mostly Black and Brown people.
Progressives need a third political party. The Green Party is a real progressive party. Click the link to learn about the difference between the Republican Party, the Democratic Party and the Green Party: https://www.gp.org/the_real_difference
The demonstration is a weekly demonstration. Every Thursday Trans rights activists march in Manhattan. It is a peaceful demonstration.
The rally was in front of the Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village. After the rally, protesters marched through different streets in Manhattan. The march ended in Union Square.
Police officers arrested around 10 peaceful protesters. One of the activists arrested was Joel Rivera. Joel was one of the organizers.
Activists said they will keep marching not matter who is the president. If Donald Trump is the president or Joe Biden is the president, they will march every Thursday. They gather at 5 PM in front of the Stonewall Inn.
New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams was in the march.
There were hundreds of NYPD officers. How much money we wasted in those hundreds of police officers?
Activists said on Instagram, “There are literally HUNDREDS of police dressed in armor and riot gear marching quite literally at times in a single line trying to threaten what is a determined but, for all intents and purposes, small peaceful group of protesters. Our leadership likes to decry a Trump presidency for a photo-op but will run his city like one. Contact your City Council members and let them know we want an investigation and hearing now!”
Activists want to defund the police and reinvest in our communities in the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn and Staten Island.
Joe Biden and Donald Trump are against defunding the police. Joe Biden said he will give more money to the police.
On Thursday, November 5, 2020, Julia Salazar said on Twitter, “If you’re a legislator who’s denouncing the NYPD’s use of excessive force against protesters last night, then I hope you also supported decreasing their inflated budget earlier this year, when you had the opportunity and responsibility to do so.”
Council Member Carlos Menchaca voted to defund the police. Carlos is running for NYC Mayor.
Carlos Menchaca says on his website Carlos2021.com, “These are undoubtedly challenging times, but we must rise to that challenge with a bold, progressive plan and not retreat to the status quo that has failed us. We can do better and we must do better.”
On Thursday, November 5, 2020, CPR Action Fund said on Twitter, “#NYPD’s violent tactics are causing physical harm and trauma to countless New Yorkers. Instead of denouncing NYPD brutality @NYCMayor continues to condone and praise their conduct. Help us protect New Yorkers and their right to protest, we need your eyes on the NYPD. #CopWatch”
On Wednesday, November 4, 2020, the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) said on Twitter, “New Yorkers have been protesting for months, and for months the NYPD has chosen to escalate tensions. Tonight is more of the same. New Yorkers deserve to exercise their right to protest without fear of violence from the NYPD. New Yorkers deserve better.”
Painter Claudine Anrather was in the march with two of her paintings (Breonna Taylor and Riah Milton).
Claudine Anrather says on Instagram, “Breonna Taylor. I am enraged and heartbroken. How do you explain this? No one will be held responsible for her killing? For endangering the neighbors but not for taking an innocent woman’s life? What fucked up system is that? It is hard to believe…. We will keep fighting until she gets justice and Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankinson and Myles Cosgrove are charged.”
Claudine Anrather says on Instagram, “Riah Milton was 25 when she was killed.yesterday’s show of force and bullying from the NYPD at peaceful protests throughout the city was a reminder that it is more important than ever to continue to make the streets ours and remind us of what we are fighting for. There is lots of work to do, the system is corrupt and broken. It is inexcusable what we had to witness yesterday. I hope I’ll see many of you again at @thestonewallprotests tonight.”
