It has been 74 years since the Nakba, or The Catastrophe, and Palestinians and supporters of Palestine marked the day amid Israeli attacks on occupied Palestinian lands.

Observed every year on May 15, Nakba Day marks the 1948 forced expulsion of nearly 800,000 Palestinians from their homes in historical Palestine.

Palestinians have the right to return to their lands.

“Thousands of people took to the streets of Bay Ridge to commemorate the 74th anniversary of al-Nakba, honor the life of Palestinian journalist and martyr Shireen Abu Akleh and uphold the right of the Palestinian people to struggle for liberation and return by any means necessary.

The candles from the vigil continue to burn today in Bay Ridge. Despite severe police repression and intimidation tactics, the youth at the forefront of the protest were unwavering in their courage and rage – interlocking hands and chanting for a Free Palestine in the spirit of the brave Palestinian people resisting occupation forces daily.

These attempts to stifle our voices and disrupt our movement are not unique to yesterday. As liberation becomes closer than ever, it is evident that the forces that seek to oppress us will only increase their violence as they tremble in fear. Just as we took over the streets yesterday, we will take them over again until every inch of Palestine is free.

Let yesterday not be where you stop showing up for Palestine – follow @wolpalestine and our back up account @wol.palestine to stay updated on future actions. Interested in joining WOL? As always, anti-Zionist Jews of the organization Neturei Karta attended the demonstration.

They say on their website nkusa.org, “Neturei Karta oppose the so-called “State of Israel” not because it operates secularly, but because the entire concept of a sovereign Jewish state is contrary to Jewish Law.

All the great rabbis who in accordance with Jewish Law opposed Zionism at its inception did not do so merely due to consideration of the secular lifestyles of the then Zionist leaders or even for their opposition to Torah heritage and rejection of its values and practices, but due to the fact that the entire concept of a Jewish state is in direct conflict with a number of Judaism’s fundamentals.”

Who killed Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh?

Al Jazeera reports that, “The Israeli military is increasingly accepting the possibility that one of its soldiers killed veteran Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, with reports emerging that Israel is investigating the likelihood that one of its soldiers shot her during a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

The Palestinian-American Abu Akleh was in Jenin on Wednesday reporting on the raid when she was killed by Israeli forces, according to Al Jazeera, as well as multiple witnesses at the scene.

Israel is also calling for a joint investigation with the Palestinian Authority (PA), which administers parts of the West Bank and cooperates with it on security.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas angrily rejected that proposal, saying “we hold the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for killing her”.

“They cannot hide the truth with this crime,” Abbas said in an address as her body lay in state with a Palestinian flag draped over it in the West Bank city of Ramallah, where the Palestinian Authority has its headquarters.

“They are the ones who committed the crime, and because we do not trust them, we will immediately go to the International Criminal Court,” Abbas said.

In a statement, Al Jazeera said that Abu Akleh had been “assassinated in cold blood” and called on the international community to hold Israeli forces responsible.

Aside from Abu Akleh, another Al Jazeera journalist, Ali al-Samoudi, was also wounded by a bullet to the back at the scene. He is now in a stable condition.”

On Wednesday, May 11, 2022, the organization Within Our Lifetime said on social media, “The evil of the zionist colonial occupation knows no bounds. This Wednesday morning, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the martyrdom of prominent, renowned Palestinian journalist and writer Shereen Abu Aqleh, who was shot and killed by zionist forces in cold blood, succumbing to a bullet to the temple.

The martyred Al-Jazeera journalist woke up this morning for work, arrived at the scene of a Jenin refugee camp to cover events where occupation soldiers launched one of their typical brutal raids, and took her last breath after being shot while covering the raid. Make no mistake, this was an intentional, targeted murder. Shereen was wearing a vest that clearly stated “PRESS” and was surrounded by crew members, who rushed her to the emergency room, where she was pronounced deceased.

As one of many war crimes that the zionist project commits on a consistent basis, this adds to a long track record of journalists, both Palestinian and non-Palestinian who have been murdered by zionist thugs in Palestine.”

On Saturday, May 7, 2022, the organization Within Our Lifetime said on social media, “After 74 years of ongoing ethnic cleansing and genocide, how could anyone expect anything else from Palestinians but resistance?

In response to the latest wave of attacks on Palestinians in Jerusalem by zionist settlers backed by the full weight of the occupation, Palestinian youth are rising up and confronting their oppressors with stones in hand, destroying security cameras, raising the Palestinian flag and defending Al-Aqsa, Jenin, Masafer Yatta, and all of Palestine.

From Jerusalem, to Gaza, to ‘48, to the West Bank, to the camps, to everywhere where Palestinian refugees currently live in exile, we must defend the Palestinian right to resist zionist settler violence and support Palestinian resistance in all its forms. By any means necessary. With no exceptions and no fine print.

We must not only commemorate the Nakba but also support Palestinian resistance in all it’s forms! Join us to celebrate our youth resisting and overcoming against the occupation in Jerusalem and declaring that all Palestinians refugees will return within our lifetime!”
