Occupied Manahatta, Lenapehoking (Manhattan, New York City) – On Sunday, June 7, 2026, Broadway Voices For Palestine held a rally across the street from Radio City Music Hall during “Broadway’s Biggest Night”, the Tony Awards, to stand in solidarity with theater artists in Palestine, and to reject the censorship of Palestinian stories and antizionist voices.

A zionist man and a zionist woman came to harass peaceful pro-Palestine, anti-genocide New Yorkers. The zionist woman was very aggressive. Approximately 10 New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers showed up, but they let the zionist woman to keep screaming at pro-Palestine protestors. NYPD Maggie Clamp, Deputy Inspector at Midtown North Precinct, was in charge of NYPD cops. Latina Maggie Clamp let the zionist woman to keep antagonizing peaceful demonstrators (Clamp is named in 5 known lawsuits, $177,000 total settlements. Taxpayers paid all that money.). On the same June 7, 2026, pro-Palestine, anti-genocide LGBTQ+ New Yorkers and allies participated in the Queens Pride Parade in Jackson Heights, Queens.

Through words, song, and dabke, we kept the tradition of cultural resistance alive and raised our voices to call on the Broadway community to speak up for Palestine. We stood in solidarity with El Hakawati, the Palestinian National Theatre in Jerusalem, and called attention to the recent court order issued by the Zionist Occupation to close the theater’s doors. We highlighted the contradictions of an industry that prides itself on “inclusivity” while attempting to intimidate, censor, and retaliate against anyone who stands firmly against occupation and genocide.

Inside Radio City Hall, BVFP member Ali Bourzgui @ali.louis courageously used his platform to speak up for Palestine in his acceptance speech for Best Featured Actor in a Musical and demonstrated that no matter how hard the people in power try to silence us, solidarity with Palestine is growing rapidly and they will never win!,” said Broadway Voices For Palestine on Monday, June 8, 2026.

In November, israel raided a Palestinian children’s play at Jerusalem’s El Hakawati theater, also know as the Palestinian National Theater. “israel” has threatened to shut down the theater completely.

The artists and allies spoke out against israel’s genocide, apartheid, theft, ethnic cleansing, ethno-supremacy, and the decades-long obstruction of the Palestinian right of return, a right enshrined in international law, UNGA 194, in addition to being a matter of basic morality.

Neither “israel’s” 1948 superimposition on Palestine nor “israel’s” war crimes and crimes against humanity since then would have been possible without the financial, military, technological, and political support of western superpowers. On a night when it would have been easy to only celebrate their own achievements, theater workers of conscience chose to call attention to the Palestinian people and their struggle for liberation.

As Israel threatens the El-Hakawati Theatre in Jerusalem, raids and represses the Freedom Theatre in the West Bank, and attempts to strangle all forms of cultural resistance in Gaza through siege, blockade, and bombardment, it is more vital than ever that cultural workers and artists with a platform raise their voices in solidarity with Palestine. Dedicated organizing and mass mobilizations over the past 2+ years have shown us that our movements have the power to shift popular opinion. As theater artists and cultural workers in the US, we have a crucial role to play in building this tidal wave, as many courageous theater workers did on Sunday night.

Tony-winning Arab-American actor Ali Louis Bourzgui dedicated his win this Sunday to “the beautiful tapestry of immigrant families who make this country special… queer and trans communities who have and always will exist,” and “the people of Palestine, who deserve to live a free life, a full life without occupation.” We echo his words and invite all artists and workers of conscience to be inspired by his bravery, and unwaveringly raise our voices with the people of Palestine and the oppressed worldwide,” said Theater Workers for a Ceasefire on Instagram on June 9, 2026.
