The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has provided education, healthcare, and humanitarian assistance to Palestine refugees since 1949. Today, its work is more critical than ever, particularly as people in Gaza and the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) face unprecedented humanitarian needs.
Israel terrorist forces have repeatedly bombed, damaged, destroyed, seized UNRWA facilities, offices, schools, and personnel.
Ongoing Airstrikes and Indirect Hits: UNRWA regularly reports that its offices and shelters have been damaged by Israel military operations. For example, an Israeli airstrike in Rimal (western Gaza City) indirectly impacted an UNRWA office building and a parked agency vehicle, causing minor damage to doors, windows, and the vehicle with no casualties reported.
January 20, 2026: Israeli forces forcibly entered and demolished the main UNRWA headquarters compound in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied East Jerusalem using heavy excavators and bulldozers.
August 25, 2026: Israeli forces forcibly entered and took control of the UNRWA Kalandia Training Centre in East Jerusalem.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres, UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini, and human rights experts condemned the demolitions and property seizures as a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the privileges and immunities of United Nations missions.

The UNRWA USA Gaza 5k is back in Prospect Park on Sunday, October 11. For years, thousands of you have shown up to stand with the children of Gaza and shown Palestine refugees that Americans care.
This isn’t just a run. (Though feel free to run/walk at a pace that tells everyone your knees date back to the founding of UNRWA)
Our goal this year is to raise $500,000 to support UNRWA mental health counselors in the Gaza Strip, helping Palestine refugee children access critical trauma support and counseling.
