The General Assembly opened its annual debate on the US economic embargo against Cuba on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. On Wednesday, 28 October, 2026, the UN’s 193 Member States will vote for the 34th time on a resolution calling for it to end.
The criminal, terrorist, genocidal USA blockade against Cuba was started by the Democratic Party (John F. Kennedy) more than 64 years ago, on February 3, 1962.
Voting for Democrat or Republican politicians in the US means voting for the blockade against Cuba to continue.
Rally and march: End the genocidal U.S. blockade on Cuba!
”“Every possible means should be taken promptly to weaken the economic life of Cuba… a line of action which, while as adroit and inconspicuous as possible, makes the greatest inroads in denying money and supplies to Cuba, to decrease monetary and real wages, to bring about hunger, desperation, and overthrow of government” — former US Deputy Assistant secretary of State for Inter-American affairs, Lester D Mallory, on April 6, 1960 outlining the rationale for the US blockade on Cuba
Over 60 years of collective punishment for Cuba for building socialism, refusing to kneel to US imperialism, and an unrelenting commitment to the liberation of oppressed and working class masses globally. The US blockade is illegal and genocidal and we refuse to stand idly by as the US ramps up warfare and threatens militarily intervention. The Cuban revolution will never be crushed!
Join us October 28 at 5 PM. Bring signs, flags, banners and be ready to get loud! NO WAR ON CUBA,” said NY/NJ Action for Cuba Committee on October 24, 2026.
Salsa on the sidewalk
“Join us, @codepinkalert, @diasporapalantecollective and @nynjactionforcuba for an evening of salsa, community, and solidarity. Every year, nearly the whole world votes to end the blockade at the UN General Assembly. Every year, the U.S. ignores the result. The blockade keeps medicine, food, and fuel from Cuban families and splits our own families apart. This year, we’re making sure New York hears about the vote.
No dance experience needed. Come to dance, come to watch, come to stand with Cuba. Bring your friends, your family, and your best moves,” said Cuban Americans for Cuba on October 24, 2026.
President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez
“Today at the UN, the overwhelming support of the international community for Cuba was evident in the condemnation of the blockade and against the U.S. government’s policy of maximum asphyxiation. The majority of the speakers, some representing regional blocs, were clear in their denunciation,” said the president of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez on October 27, 2026.
Canel Bermúdez added, “During the debate, the U.S. representative, in evident isolation, did not have the courage to explain to the world the reason for the criminal energy siege to which they subject the Cuban people, nor for the reinforcement of the extraterritoriality of the blockade.”
Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez concluded by saying, “They can pressure sovereign nations, intimidate, and spread distracting fabrications, but the vast majority knows which side the truth is on, and will continue to express loudly: Cuba is not a threat; the blockade is.”
Global Week of Action Against US Genocide in Cuba
“Join the NY/NJ Action for Cuba Committee and our member organizations for the Global Week of Action Against US Genocide in Cuba October 24-31 as part of the #NoWarOnCuba campaign!
On October 28, the world will vote to end the US blockade on Cuba for the 34th time. For 33 years, the UN General Assembly has declared that blockade a violation of international law by overwhelming margins, most recently 165 to 7 in 2025. The United States has ignored every one of those votes. Now the blockade has intensified into something far worse.
Beginning with the total energy blockade in January, the US continues to use collective punishment policies to restrict access to essential needs like electricity, medicine, food and water to manufacture desperation, suffering, and death. The goal? Topple Cuba’s revolutionary government and crush the Cuban revolution. This is GENOCIDE!
We stand in defense of Cuba’s right to self-determination, sovereignty, and dignity. We call on the people of NY and NJ to join these coordinated actions to demonstrate a unified voice as we say NO WAR ON CUBA!” said NY/NJ Action for Cuba Committee on October 21, 2026.
The United Nations
“This year’s debate comes as the Trump administration has tightened the embargo – a move that has led to an energy crisis and possible humanitarian collapse, according to the UN Resident Coordinator in Cuba, Francisco Pichon.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has also warned that energy shortages are taking a toll on health.
In May, senior UN officials reported that more than 100,000 surgical procedures had been postponed. Cuban authorities have repeatedly pointed to further damage to the health system, including delays to vaccination programmes and patients with chronic illnesses unable to get a stable supply of medicines.
This year, President Donald Trump has also raised the possibility of military intervention in Cuba.
Successive UN High Commissioners for Human Rights and independent UN experts have condemned the embargo and other unilateral US sanctions, warning that they threaten Cubans’ rights to health, life, food and development.
On Tuesday when Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, interrupted the US Ambassador, Mike Waltz, on a point of order midway through his statement.
The exchange escalated into a heated row between the two, prompting the President of the General Assembly to briefly suspend the session. The debate later resumed without further incident.
Mr. Waltz rejected the premise of the debate, arguing that Cuba’s crisis was the fault of its own government, not the embargo.
“There is no blockade,” he said. If there were, he argued, there would be no explaining US exports to Cuba – which he put at more than $876 million in the first eight months of 2026 – or shipments from Canada, Spain, Mexico, China, Russia, the European Union and UN agencies.
The country’s wealth had not vanished, he said, but had “simply” passed from ordinary Cubans into the hands of the ruling elite.
Mr. Rodríguez is due to deliver his statement on Wednesday,” said the United Nations on October 27, 2026.
DSA politicians
Over 250 members of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) hold public offices across the United States of America.
During a 2025 interview on the podcast The Moment with Jorge and Paola Ramos, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani initially declined to label Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel and Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as dictators. A few days after the interview aired, his campaign issued a statement explicitly condemning both Díaz-Canel and Maduro as dictators.
“I have spoken with Cubans who have described it as a dictatorship, and I believe them,” said Angie Nixon on social media on October 26, 2026.
DSA politicians like Rashida Tlaib in Michigan, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in New York, Angie Nixon in Florida, Zohran Mamdani in New York, Nikil Saval in Pennsylvania, Phara Souffrant Forrest in New York, Omar Fateh in Minnesota, Marcela Mitaynes in New York, Jabari Brisport in New York, etc. are members of the Imperialist, corrupt, zionist, pro-ICE, pro-Israel Democratic Party.
The Imperialist, corrupt Democratic Party and the Imperialist, corrupt Republican Party in the United States of America are two faces of the same yankee empire.
Short history of the blockade
Economic Embargo (Trade Ban): President John F. Kennedy signed Executive Order 3447 on February 3, 1962, formalizing a total trade embargo against Cuba. This built upon earlier export restrictions started under Republican President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1960.
Naval Blockade (Quarantine): In October 1962, President John F. Kennedy ordered a naval quarantine (blockade) around Cuba to stop the Soviet Union from bringing in nuclear missiles. This 13-day military standoff is known as the Cuban Missile Crisis.
February 1962 was more than 64 years ago (as of 2026), meaning the economic restrictions began over six decades ago and have been maintained and expanded by multiple US Democratic and Republican presidents since then.
