UPDATED on 5/31/2020.
More rallies today. People are at Barclays Center right now (5/31/2020. 2:45PM).
Peoples Power Assemblies NYC, organizers said on Facebook before the rallies, Join People’s Power Assemblies as we show solidarity with the activists and folks on the ground in Minneapolis who are protesting the sadistic murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. The horrific videos, as well as the current COVID19 pandemic – shows what Black people have known for centuries – in a society built upon white supremacy, Black bodies are seen as disposable. But we say NO! BLACK LIVES WILL ALWAYS MATTER! We demand justice for George Floyd, his children and family. Justice for ALL BLACK LIVES taken by police murder, vigilantes and mobs. We demand justice for the survivors, Blacks folks who were maimed, disabled, and traumatized by police and agents of the state. The COVID19 pandemic is ongoing – wear a mask, and socially disrupt at least 6 feet apart. Abolish the Police! Jail Killer Cops!”
Green Party National Co-Chair Trahern Crews Part of Community Response in Minneapolis: “On Tuesday, May 25th Officer Derek Chauvin forced his knee on the neck of George Floyd for eight grueling, life-taking minutes until he died — as Officer Tou Thao looked on. Community members were present and recorded the horrific, traumatizing incident that has sparked protest and anger in the Black community across America.”
