Monday, March 22, 2021. New York City – Representative Henry Cuellar, a democrat from Texas, provided the photos to Axios. Cuellar did not tour the concentration camp in Donna, Texas or take the photos himself. Henry said the photos were taken over the weekend (March 20 – March 21). These are the first photos to be taken of kids in cages during the Joe Biden and Kamala Harris administration.
On Sunday, March 7, 2021, the group Mexicanos Unidos in New York City held the rally and march “NO MORE KIDS IN CAGES”. Supporters of undocumented immigrants gathered at Barclays Center in the borough of Brooklyn. After the rally, people marched to Foley Square in Manhattan. Satsuki Ina wrote the article “A Cage is Still a Cage: President Biden Must End U.S. Detention of Children and Families” on Time.com. Satsuki says, “A prison is a prison. That’s true whether it’s called a “family residential facility,” or a “rapid-processing center.” These facilities must be torn down, not renamed.”
Ina adds, “When immigration authorities lock up children and families , they are acting with full knowledge of the long-term trauma they are inflicting. Years from now, children and families will be wrestling with the trauma of incarceration and demanding to know — as I demanded — why the U.S. government did this to them. We must shut these prison camps down.”
The organization United We Dream says on UnitedWeDream.org, “127,457 Number of confirmed deportations under Biden (last updated on Monday, March 15, 2021). Under the Biden-Harris Administration’s watch, deportations are taking place daily, despite a promise to stop deportations.”
The photos from inside the U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility in Donna, Texas, reveal the crowded, makeshift conditions at the detention centers for children in the United States of America.
The Biden and Harris administration does not allow journalists to go inside the concentration camps for undocumented immigrants. Lawyers who represent the children said that children are being held in cramped and overcrowded conditions. Children told immigration lawyers some were forced to sleep on the floor, with limited time outdoors in a courtyard. These images show the conditions of the concentration camps.
On Tuesday, February 9, 2021, U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced they were opening of a soft-sided facility in Donna, Texas. CBP said, “The facility is weatherproof, climate-controlled, and is expected to provide ample areas for eating, sleeping, and personal hygiene. The new facility’s design is a considerable upgrade from previous soft-sided facilities.”
The photos taken on Saturday, March 20 or Sunday, March 21, do not show “ample areas for eating, sleeping, and personal hygiene.”
According to Rep. Henry Cuellar, each of eight “pods” in the so-called soft-sided facility has a 260-person occupancy, but as of Sunday, March 21, he said, one pod held more than 400 male minors. Cuellar described the setting as “terrible conditions for the children”.
According to the media, as of Sunday, March 21, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents were holding more than 15,500 children in custody. At least 5,000 children have been kept for over 72 hours, the legal limit after which they are meant to be transferred to the custody of health officials in the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
BBC reports, “The children are seen huddled together and sleeping in foil blankets on mattresses on the floor. Children are being kept together so closely that they were able to reach out and touch their neighbor, activists say, adding that they have not been given adequate access to soap or food.”
Former President Donald Trump faced outrage over the conditions inside detention centers holding children.
Former president Barack Obama also had children in cages. Most democrats did not say anything about it.
In 2019 and 2020, ex presidential candidates of the Democratic Party said they did not want children in cages. Today, president Joe Biden and vice president Kamala Harris have thousands of children in cages. Democrats used immigrant children to get votes.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and other democrat politicians have not said anything about the photos of the concentration camp in Donna, Texas.
It is interesting that “Britain and the EU have taken joint action with the US and Canada to impose parallel sanctions on a senior Chinese officials involved in the mass internment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang province in the first such western action against Beijing since Joe Biden took office.”
The United States of America has thousands of children and adults in government-run concentration camps. Activists say the camps are inhumane.
In 2019, Kamala Harris said, detaining children, particularly in such dire conditions, “is a human rights abuse being committed by the United States government.” Harris described seeing “children lined up like prisoners” as heartbreaking. Today, Kamala Harris is the vice president of the United States of America. She can stop the human rights abuse by her administration.
On Monday, March 22, 2021, Shaun King said on Twitter, “It’s wild to see people who were OUTRAGED at the conditions for children at the border under Trump just not care that much anymore under Biden.”
On Friday, March 19, 2021, Senator Chris Murphy went to El Paso, Texas, with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and a bipartisan Senate group to visit detention centers for unaccompanied children at the border.
Chris Murphy said on Twitter, “Just left the border processing facility. 100s of kids packed into big open rooms. In a corner, I fought back tears as a 13 yr old girl sobbbed uncontrollably explaining thru a translator how terrified she was, having been separated from her grandmother and without her parents.”
There are now 3,889 migrants in the facility that is meant to hold just 250, meaning it is currently at 1,556 percent capacity, according to internal CBP documents obtained by ABC News. New data obtained by ABC News shows a nearly five-fold increase in the number of children and teenagers being held in border patrol custody for over 240 hours since March 15, despite the legal 72-hour limit.
The Biden-Harris administration announced on Monday, March 22, that senior officials will travel to Mexico to discuss the increase in migrants attempting to enter the US. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 23, 2021.
Roberta Jacobson, Special Assistant to the President and Coordinator for the Southwest Border, will travel to Mexico for a meeting with Mexican government officials. Juan Gonzalez, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for the Western Hemisphere, would join Jacobson in Mexico, then travel on to Guatemala to meet with government officials, as well as representatives from civil society and non-government organizations “to address root causes of migration in the region and build a more hopeful future in the region.” The officials will be joined by the Department of State Northern Triangle Special Envoy Ricardo Zuniga.
“The main issue to discuss will be cooperation for development in Central America and the south of Mexico, as well as the joint efforts for safe, orderly and regular migration,” Roberto Velasco Álvarez, the top official at the Mexican foreign ministry for North America, said on Twitter.
Representatives of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac) will also attend the meeting.
