Within our Lifetime • United for Palestine said before the demonstration, “People are asking if this is still happening because of the “ceasefire”. Yes it’s still happening and that changes nothing. Gaza has been under siege and blockade for 15 years. No freedom of movement, no clean water, no work, constant bombardment from israel and destruction of infrastructure. Do not limit speaking out on Palestine to the times when massive bombs are dropping. Violence is always there as long as israeli colonialism exists. Being trapped in the worlds largest open air prison is violence. We must go even harder now! Celebrate our resistance while ensuring that the understanding of our struggle goes beyond war crimes and human rights violations. Palestine is an indigenous struggle against settler colonialism. As long as israeli colonization exists, we must be there to fight it.Also it’s not a “conflict” between “Israel” and Hamas. It’s a struggle that the Palestinian people are collectively waging against oppression.”

After the rally and march, Within our Lifetime • United for Palestine said, “On Saturday we took to the streets of Queens, the most diverse place in the world, with one of the most diverse rallies we’ve ever seen: 25,000-30,000 people strong in defense of Palestine.

In an outpouring of international solidarity, flags and signs representing Albania, Algeria, Bangladesh, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Kashmir, Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, Pakistan, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Yemen and more, along with the Pan-African flag flown by the December 12th Movement, were raised throughout the rally and march.

As we marched through Queens from Sunnyside to Astoria to Jackson Heights, we chanted for Palestine in Arabic, Spanish and Urdu, with “Viva Viva Palestina” and “Palestine Zindabad” echoing through the air.

The march also marked a new chapter in NYC protest history according to one movement elder, who noted that no march in memory ever took over and shut down Queens Boulevard. The only reason this was possible was because tens of thousands of people mobilized even after the so-called “ceasefire” was announced because people understand the urgency of this moment, and that our fight is not over until Palestine is liberated.

We shouldn’t have a moment to rest when our Palestinian family in Palsetine don’t get a moment to rest from colonziation and genocide. We should be struggling as much as possible in the streets and in organizations. This is why it is called the Palestinian struggle, because it is a fight. We have to fight to live. We have to resist to exist.

This is why we cannot let the momentum die down. The resistance inspires us to keep resisting here and we also inspire people in Palestine and around the world knowing that the struggle is represented in every borough of NYC and every corner of the globe. Long Live International Solidarity! Long Live Palestine!”

Outraged at apartheid Israel’s crimes against Palestinians? Here are 5 things you can do.

According to the BDS Movement, “In many countries, governments and corporations are deeply complicit with Israel’s decades-old regime of military occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid, just as they were complicit in the apartheid regime in South Africa. Israel can only sustain this regime of oppression with international complicity.” Click here to see 5 actions you can do to show that dismantling Israel’s regime of oppression is also in your hands.
